Press Conference on the Presentation of the Turkish Pavilion in EXPO 2015 Milano

The promotion of the Turkish Pavilion in EXPO Milano was made through a press conference accompanied by a luncheon today in Società del Giardino in Milan. The future of nutrition, the preservation of biodiversity, and food safety are the main arguments Turkey will use “Digging Into History for Future Food” to address the theme “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life”. Food sustainability and energy savings for “green economy” have been originally interpreted by Turkey as a balance between human intervention and the natural elements of earth, air and water. This perfect yet ever evolving interrelation is precisely what the Turkish Pavilion plans to share in the next six months through an environment where culture and technology work together. Adnan YILDIRIM, Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Turkey, said “the energy and confidence we obtained from our deep-rooted history and rich culture motivates us to work more, to produce better and to share with others. With its conceptually well-focused theme and architecturally well-designed Pavilion, Turkey will make an effective contribution in EXPO Milano on the subjects of “the future of food”, “sustainable food and nutrition” and “the food and nutrition for the humanity” to lead the world and all humanity to a better and more livable future.” Turkey unveils the secrets of its rich agriculture through its theme “Digging into History for Future Food” centered around “Nar”. Literally translated as Pomegranate, “Nar”, is one of the richness of Turkey in agriculture and represents fertility and abundance. Being associated with positive attributes in many cultures and religions, the pomegranate carries within it the poetry of the single and the collective, of diversity and equality, of the part and the whole. Turkey drawing on its long-standing history and unique culture created an aesthetic and futuristic pavilion that includes all aspects and richness of Turkey. Tarık SÖNMEZ, General Commissioner of Turkey for EXPO 2015 Milano, concluded by saying, “the design and architecture of the Turkish Pavilion were realized by inspiration from the best examples of the Turkish art and culture, including Topkapı Palace, Seljuki Star, ‘Çeşm-i Bülbül’, the queen of Turkish glass art, Caravanserai, ‘Under the Plane Tree Tea Garden’, ‘Ottoman Fountain - Şadırvan’, Traditional Turkish House as well as special patterns pertaining to the Turkish culture. Turkey’s new logo ‘TURKEY-Discover the Potential’ and its symbols were also included in every part of our pavilion.” An architectural project built in record time. Turkey, among the last countries that confirmed their presence in the EXPO, designed the Pavilion in just two months, and finished its construction in just three and half month. The Turkish Pavilion covers a total area of 4.170 square meters in the EXPO Site, being the 5th largest Pavilion in EXPO Milano. Nearly one fifth of the Turkish Pavilion was reserved only for green space, which includes nearly 15-meter high 3 real plane trees and 40 pomegranate trees. The floor was mostly covered with Turkish marble and amorphous stones were also used in floor decoration. A vertical garden, which was installed on an area of 115 square meters, and a decorative pond covering 115 square meters are the other distinctive parts the Turkish Pavilion. The Turkish Pavilion has skillfully and meticulously designed areas and venues for workshops, theme-related events, shows, concerts, gourmet store, restaurant, café, souvenir shop and library. It will also host numerous crowd-pulling exhibitions throughout the EXPO. Turkey’s National Day in the EXPO is on 14th September 2015. The Turkish Pavilion waits for its guests to experience all its specialties and distinguishing features in EXPO Milano.
