The MICHELIN Guide is relaunching its restaurant selections in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo

  • The next selections will be presented in March 2024

Michelin is pleased to announce that the MICHELIN Guide will restart updating its restaurant selections in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

Paused at the end of 2020, the new restaurant selections for Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo will be presented in March 2024, in a form to be released at a later date.

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides commented: “We are delighted to announce the return to our gastronomic recommendation activities in Brazil. Made possible thanks to the official support of the cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, whose sincere and ongoing commitment should be highlighted, the relaunch of our restaurant selections will once again allow for celebrating the best local establishments and the talented professionals who run them. The MICHELIN Guide inspectors have already started to get back on track with these wonderful restaurants and are now eager to reveal their next edition in March 2024.”

The return of MICHELIN Guide activities to Brazil is supported by the Cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, the secretary of tourism of which declared:

"Bringing the iconic Michelin Guide to Rio is a certainty that the city is on the world gastronomic tourist trail. This is spectacular! Associating the destination of Rio with a brand recognized and celebrated fine dining is a source of great joy. It means telling this sector, this huge and powerful industry, these incredible professionals that Rio City Hall, through its Tourism Department, is betting big on our Culture, which deserves respect, attention, encouragement, applause and the spotlight. We are moving forward! Just as important as stimulating the economy is valuing what our chefs have been doing for a long time." said Daniela Maia, Secretary of Tourism for the city of Rio de Janeiro.

"The city of São Paulo is a gastronomic hub recognized worldwide by fans of diverse cuisine. You can find establishments in São Paulo that represent dozens of types of cuisine, and this is one of the most symbolic facets of the cosmopolitan capital that it is. Gastronomy also generates employment and income opportunities and attracts people from Brazil and around the world to get to know the creative restaurants that the city of São Paulo has to offer. The Sao Paulo City Hall is very keen to highlight the commitment and passion of São Paulo residents for gastronomy and we are delighted with the arrival of the MICHELIN Guide, which highlights the diversity and culinary richness of the city." says Rodolfo Marinho, Secretary of Tourism for the city of São Paulo.

All the gastronomic recommendations in the MICHELIN Guide Rio de Janeiro – São Paulo will be updated solely in digital format on the website and the free MICHELIN Guide mobile app. The recommended restaurants will be selected completely independently by the MICHELIN Guide inspectors according to the Guide’s historic and universal methodology, deployed in Brazil for the first time in 2015.
