Just a few, short weeks before the presentation of this year’s starred establishments, Michelin is pleased to unveil the selection of Bib Gourmand restaurants that made it into the MICHELIN Guide Netherlands 2021. This year, the selection comprises no fewer than 118 Bib Gourmand restaurants, including 13 new names, which continue to offer gourmet meals at affordable prices.

“With the restaurant industry going through a very tough time, it seemed more important than ever to recognize the efforts made by these establishments and to highlight the qualities that Bib Gourmand restaurants deliver,” said Werner Loens, Head Inspector for the MICHELIN Guide Netherlands. “Chefs and their teams have demonstrated, and are still demonstrating, incredible perseverance and determination on a daily basis. They’ve been introducing innovative solutions for takeout and delivery, for example, organizing campaigns to help producers and even creating new businesses and new concepts – all positive, promising signs of the recovery ahead. In return, we had a duty to honor our commitment, to both restaurants and diners, to seek out and celebrate good food and culinary talent wherever they are. That’s the reasoning behind this Bib Gourmand selection, which was prepared with a particularly strong level of commitment, passion and determination so that, as soon as they are able, lovers of good food can head to restaurants that offer the best value for money.”

In addition to the 118 establishments that have held on to their Bib Gourmand label, the 2021 selection also reveals some wonderful new discoveries, such as Fa. Pekelhaaring in Amsterdam. Thanks to an incredibly varied and creative dining experience, as well as a strong emphasis on local products, this urban cafeteria-style eatery has all the qualities of a Bib Gourmand restaurant. A similar spirit of diversity and spontaneity can be found at Alma Bodega in Oisterwijk, where gourmet diners can explore dishes that offer an extremely wide variety of flavors.

When discussing culinary diversity, it is impossible not to mention Prix de Rome in Maastricht and Rust Wat in Blaricum. These two restaurants prove that a menu doesn’t need to be sophisticated to deliver top quality. And let’s not forget Vineum in Rotterdam, where our inspectors were charmed by a perfect mastery of classic cooking techniques, combined with bold creativity and a particularly remarkable wine list.

This unveiling of the new Bib Gourmand restaurants in the Netherlands marks the start of a month full of surprises. The full selection from the MICHELIN Guide Netherlands, and therefore the new starred restaurants, will be revealed on Monday, March 29.
