Food as a legacy for future generations: expo milano 2015 celebrates the national day of Turkey

“We must not throw away even a crumb of bread, and this is why we are used to getting up from the table without wasting anything. If we are able to instil this lesson into our children we will have a better future”. This was the message launched by the Minister of Economy, Nihat Zeybeckcì, to mark the celebrations for the #nationalday of Turkey, the Country playing a starring role today at Expo #milano 2015.
General Commissioner of Expo #milano 2015, Bruno Antonio Pasquino did the honours, reminding those present of the ancient relations between Italy and Turkey and the role that both Countries play on the international scenario, as bridges between Europe and Asia: "We are the heirs of ancient cultures, the respective cradles of the cultures in the Middle East and the Mediterranean".
“The Turkey Pavilion is the fifth largest in the Universal Exposition – added the Turkish Minister -: whereas most Countries opted for closed structures, we decided to build an open space where all the civilisations can meet”. And this same exchange of relations is the basis on which Turkey has built both its past and its future.
“A symbol of the Middle Eastern Country’s #food and culture of hospitality is the pomegranate, which represents diversity and unity, values that characterise Turkey, a Country eager to open up to the rest of the world”, stressed Pasquino.
In conclusion, Zeybekcì emphasised just how close the relations between Italy and Turkey are: “Both have always been crossroads for trade, they are Mediterranean Countries that share the same values and welcome different traditions. We must work together: we are similar and this gives us better possibilities for collaborating”. An observation confirmed by the figures, which place Italy as the fourth trading partner of the Middle Eastern nation.
The celebrations for the #nationalday are set to continue into the evening with a business forum, tasting sessions of traditional foods, craft workshops and a football match between teams of young players from Italy and Turkey. The cultural and folk performances scheduled include shows with fire stunts by the group “The fire of Anatolia” and a performance by the orchestra of Burhan Öcal.
