Third Edition of the MICHELIN Guide Washington D.C. recognizes its first Three-Star Restaurant

The Inn at Little Washington joins elite global restaurant selection

Boulogne-Billancourt, 14 September 2018 — Michelin has launched the 2019 edition of the MICHELIN Guide Washington D.C., and has added three more starred establishments to the selection in the nation’s capital. Using a star rating system to denote restaurants that are worth a stop (one star), a detour (two stars) or a special journey (three stars) Michelin publishes the iconic Guide worldwide in 31 countries, across four continents.

Michelin inspectors, who have been dining anonymously around Washington, D.C. for the past three years, have recognized The Inn at Little Washington as the first D.C.-area restaurant to achieve a three star award, elevating it from two stars for this 2019 edition. Additionally, Brescaand Siren by RW were honored with one-star awards for the first time.

“Our inspectors are especially impressed with the consistency of the restaurant scene in D.C.”, said Michael Ellis, international director of the MICHELIN Guide.

“Every starred restaurant recognized last year has maintained exceptional quality and consistently high standards. Notably this year, our inspectors found the kitchens of chefs Patrick O’Connell (The Inn at Little Washington), Ryan Ratino (Bresca) and Robert Wiedmaier and Brian McBride (Siren by RW) demonstrated fine attention to detail and served high-quality, top-notch cuisine,” Ellis said. “This is a wonderful distinction for The Inn at Little Washington, which celebrated its 40th anniversary earlier this year. Over numerous visits, our inspectors were most impressed by the balance of creative, chef-driven cuisine and impeccable technique from chef O’Connell.”

Bresca, led by chef Ryan Ratino, opened in the fall of 2017. This cozy, stylishly designed neighborhood spot offers well-executed and creative fare made with high-quality ingredients. Ratino’s clever use of ingredients and fine technique never get in the way of approachability and flavor.

Siren by RW, owned by the ambitious chef Robert Wiedmaier, opened in April of last year in the Darcy Hotel. The kitchen sources impeccable quality seafood and prepares it with surprising finesse on a level that warrants a star.

The restaurants of well-respected chefs José Andrés (minibar) and Aaron Silverman (Pineapple and Pearls) have maintained their two-star status in the 2019 edition. The two-star distinction recognizes establishments that are worth a detour.

Also of note are the talented teams at the 11 restaurants which maintained their one-star status from the 2018 edition.

The 2019 Bib Gourmands were announced last week for D.C. The Bib Gourmands are awarded to restaurants that earn the attention of Michelin inspectors as personal favorites, offering great quality food at good prices.

Additionally, the 2019 MICHELIN Guide Washington, D.C. recognizes more than 70 restaurants with the Plate symbol, a designation given to restaurants that inspectors recommend to travelers and locals for a good meal with fresh ingredients and capable preparation. The MICHELIN Guide comprises a selection of restaurants, and is not merely a listing.

More than 36 styles of cuisine appear in the Guide and diners can find recommendations for establishments with notable wine, beer, sake and cocktail lists, as well as menus where average prices are $25 and under.

The 2019 selection includes:

One restaurant with three stars

Two restaurants with two stars

13 restaurants with one star

39 restaurants with a Bib Gourmand
